Today’s seniors are fiercely independent, passionately committed to their hobbies and families, and eager to find new meaning in retirement. Many seniors believe that the best way to preserve their independence is by remaining in their homes. But senior living communities offer a viable alternative.
Today’s senior living communities are hubs of learning and evolution. They offer virtually endless opportunities for socialization, myriad classes, community outings, and so much more. For seniors who find that life at home is proving tedious or exhausting, or for those who no longer drive, the right community can offer a second chance at a vibrant, joyous existence.
Arbor’s communities boast a wide range of activities—some silly, others poignant, all enjoyable to the seniors who plan or participate in them. Check out this recent video from Arbor Terrace at Kingwood Town Center for an inside glimpse of life at Arbor.

Enjoying the Great Outdoors
Some of our residents are lifelong gardeners, avid outdoors people, and committed animal lovers. So we try to offer lots of ways to engage with nature. At Arbor Terrace of Decatur, residents love our outdoor koi pond. And when the weather’s nice, we’re thrilled to have cocktails and music around the pond.
Arbor Terrace of Johns Creek was thrilled to host a beautiful and meaningful outing to Veterans Memorial Park. Arbor Terrace of Herndon is now a Certified Wildlife Habitat—a fact that members of our perennially active Garden Club are especially thrilled about. Our Garden Club tends the blooms that serve as a backdrop for our weekly happy hour. Residents were also excited to share a picnic lunch after touring the luscious blooms at The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens.
At Arbor, life is full of celebrations small and large. From birthdays to graduation celebrations for kids, grandkids, and even a few residents, we’re thrilled to help residents celebrate the events that make life worth living. Two residents at Arbor Terrace Ortega recently celebrated an impressive 73 years of wedded bliss.
Arbor Terrace of Decatur hosts a monthly birthday celebration. In July, residents marveled at the musical stylings of flutist Richard Robbins. Of course, we don’t stick to just our own celebrations. We have quite a few royal watchers at Arbor Terrace at Crabapple, who arose early to watch and celebrate the recent royal wedding. We also celebrated all the fathers in our community with baseball, brats, and brews.
Our residents love our delicious daily meals, but we all relish the chance to eat something a little different. Arbor Terrace of Herndon celebrated National Wine Day with a trip to Creek’s Edge Winery. They also enjoyed delicious cocktails and food at a Cinco de Mayo celebration. Residents with a sweet tooth got to sample ice cream sundaes from around the world.
Giving to others offers a sense of meaning to many of our residents. We strive to create volunteer opportunities catered to a range of ability levels. At Arbor Terrace at Crabapple, our Helping Hands event cut coupons to give to soldiers.
At Barrington Terrace, residents of the Bridges and Legacy communities routinely give back to residents in Evergreen, our memory care community. Friends from the different communities recently got together to make pizzas, and to make non-skid socks for fellow residents.
The communities we serve relish giving back to us, too. The Evergreen Community of Arbor Terrace of Johns Creek recently received a shipment of fidget blankets and dolls from a local church’s women’s group. We’re proud to invest in our communities, and to have our communities invest back in us.
Relaxing With Friends
The relationships our residents form with one another are the very heart of what makes our communities great. Our residents fiercely care for one another, and that’s evident in the wide range of ways they spend time together. Arbor Terrace of Johns Creek hosts a weekly Memories and Mimosas gathering, at which residents get together and share some of their favorite memories. The event sometimes turns into a celebration. We recently had a surprise housewarming party for Becky Wagner, our Engagement Director.
Residents at Arbor Terrace of Johns Creek and Arbor Terrace at Crabapple recently met up for a night of medieval-inspired fun at Medieval Times.
We’d love to welcome you to one of our outings or events. We tailor our activities to the interests of our residents, so if you join us, your hobbies will become an important factor in our planning.
